New Haven Township Road Maintenance Millage Renewal

New Haven Township voters will be asked if they wish to renew our 2 mill road fund on the August ballot.  This millage, which can only be spent on road maintenance, provides approximately $86,000.00, or about two thirds of our annual road spending. The other third comes from the township general fund. This fund allows us to make a serious effort to maintain about 35 miles of pavement and 46 miles of gravel roads.  The current cost to seal coat a mile of pavement is about $19,000.00, gravel is about $11,500.00, and repaving a mile of road, $110,000.00.  The road millage also funds culvert replacement, some limited ditching, and biannual application of dust control. Without this millage, dust control (brine) alone, even at a 33% lighter application rate than currently applied, would consume half the annual general funds available. This would leave less than $30,000.00 per year for maintenance on 81 miles of township roads.

- Second Dust Control application should done in the next 2 weeks.
